Manifestation determination
Manifestation determination is a meeting that must occur with relevant members of the IEP Team when a student with an IEP has missed a total of 10 days of school due to behavioral problems. In this meeting, it must be determined whether or not the behavioral problems that caused the student to miss being exposed to the curriculum were caused by the student's disability. Also, the team must consider behavior plans. If a student is currently on a behavior plan, is it working the way that the team hoped it would or does this need to be altered? If a student is not currently on a behavior plan, does the team need to implement one? Another factor that must be considered is whether or not the student needs to be tested for a new or different area of a disability. Below is a CASE article that explains more information on when and why manifestation determination meetings must be held. The manifestation determination guide below shares some helpful insight on how the meeting should be held and what all should be talked about in the meeting.
